You’re going about your life working, feeding the kids, loading the dishwasher, doing laundry, taking out the recycling...until one day you find yourself wondering what it would be like if…
A child grew up in a cabin in the woods only knowing her parents and never meeting another person…
A stranger somehow knew your whole life story and all of your thoughts and feelings…
You were suddenly teleported to the exact spot you are now, but 50 or 100 years in the past...
This is how story ideas come up for me sometimes.
But the way they usually tend to come is through music.
I’ll be listening to a song, either a familiar one or something new, and a feeling will wash over me.
And truly, when it happens this way, it’s a feeling before it’s an idea.
It’s a feeling before it’s a character, or a relationship, or an obstacle or a mystery or a romance…
And this feeling intensifies and spreads like vines as it begins to develop and take shape.
It’s an incredible experience that I welcome again and again and again.
It feels like I’m channeling divine energy of inspiration...because I am.
How do story ideas and inspiration show up for you?
Do you have intense feelings about them?
Are your stories a whole mood like they are for me?
